Newstead Abbey

As the former home of the romantic poet Lord Bryon, Newstead Abbey’s credentials as an impressive and exceptionally photographic wedding venue cannot be denied. The Abbey was founded as a monastic house in the late 12th century and has kept much of its medieval character to this day. Should you live in the Parish, the Chapel at Newstead Abbey is available to you for your wedding ceremony but if you do not live in the local area, Newstead Abbey has several other options available to you for your Wedding Ceremony and Breakfast. Civil Ceremonies at Newstead are held in the Orangery, which was originally the south transept of the Priory Church but was converted into a room for growing citrus fruits by the Byron family in the 16th century. The detailed and ornate plaster ceilings, sparkling crystal chandeliers and large windows with unparalleled garden views, make the Orangery a wonderful place to get married and be photographed in.

Drinks receptions can be held in the neutrally decorated Garden Room (perfect for adding your own colour scheme and design touches to if you wish) and adjoining French Garden, where your guests can mingle while you have those all important photographs taken. Alternatively, the Orangery door opens out into the 15th century windowed Cloisters, which form a quadrangle around a central courtyard which is laid out as a Mary Garden. Imagine entertaining your guests and being photographed in such an unusual historic and atmospheric setting. For your Wedding Reception, Newstead Abbey can offer either the elegant West Front Suite which offers amazing views of the Abbey’s breathtaking facade or the Cascade Room which offers pleasing views over the lake and is perfect for more intimate wedding receptions.

Finally, the gardens at Newstead Abbey cover over 300 acres, including lakes, ponds, parkland and waterfalls, with smaller gardens including the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, the French and Spanish Gardens and the Monk’s Garden plus wildlife such as peacocks and swans. As you can see, Newstead’s remarkable scenery provides a huge range of options to choose from for your wedding photographs.
