Nottingham Strobist Meeting - 22/04/10
While 'Strobist' sounds a bit like someone who wanders around with a giant torch on his head, it's not, it is, in fact a website written by an American photographer teaching people how to use flashes off camera. I started reading it a couple of years ago and now use the techniques quite a lot at weddings. There have been quite a few local groups across the UK which practised off camera flash, but we weren't aware of one in Nottingham - until now. Tuesday saw the first meeting of the Nottingham Strobist Group!
Photographers ranging from those that hadn't even turned on a flash before to those that had their own studios met and practised off camera flash with the help of a couple of very patient models. (Thank you Tiff and Ellie)

What's in a name? - 11/03/10
***Public Service Announcement***
You might have heard all the furore recently about Jamie Bulger's killer returning to jail and somewhere, someone has put two and two together and comes up with sixteen. So when a man says he's from Liverpool and has been to prison, someone immediately assumes he is in fact, the devil incarnate and proceeds to tell everyone else that David Calvert is the new identity of Jamie Bulger's killer.
Except he's not. And neither are any of the other David Calvert's in this country, all just trying to get on with their lives when their surname is picked up on and they're swamped with lots of attention that they don't need.
So spare a thought for friend and fellow photographer, David Calvert, 46, is a national award winning photographer and his business David Calvert Photography, based in Hertfordshire, specialises in family and child portraiture. David has our complete support in these difficult circumstances and we hope very much that they pass without impact to him, his own family or his business.

Portfolio update - 17/01/10
Wait, what's this, a website within a website? Fear not, it's just a screen shot of the portfolio pages on the main site. I've just had a big overhaul of the portfolio galleries on the website and though I'd let you all know. Now instead of one gallery with a measly 35 pictures in, we have 5 galleries with more than 100 pictures in. Divided up into different sections of the wedding day, this way you can see much more of my work, so have a nosey around!

Model Shoot - London - 15/08/09
As part of my ever ongoing learning process, this Thursday involved getting together with a bunch of other wedding photographers and photographing a model down in London. A huge thanks to Paul White for arranging this. A few pictures below!
