FAQs
Where are you based?
I am based in Hucknall near Nottingham, and accept work across the UK.
Will you travel to meet us?
I will come to see you if you are in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester or anywhere in the East Midlands. If you're a bit further away, we can arrange a mutually convenient location to meet, or even talk on the phone or via email.
What sort of pictures do you take?
My shooting style can be described as 'reportage', 'documentary', 'photojournalistic' or 'candid'. I call it storytelling as I try to tell a story through the individual picture or the album as a whole. That doesn't mean that I lurk in the shadows like a teenager in a social skills competition. I'll be in amongst your guests just like everyone else.
How would you describe your shooting style?
I like to take photographs that tell a story. My aim is that someone looking at your photos really gets a feel for how the wedding was, what parts were special to the bride and groom and what the 'feel' of the day was. If I wanted to sound posh I would call it 'creating a narrative through imagery' but prefer just to say 'telling the story of your day'. This phrase is a bit over used in the wedding industry at the moment, but it's the best way to describe my work.
So you don't take any portraits of the two of us? Or family groups?
Indeed I do, we'll take about 30 minutes to take some relaxed and natural portraits and I'll take about 20 minutes to do some family group pictures (but that depends on how many you want). If you want to spend more time or split up the portrait session into two shorter sessions, then that's absolutely fine.
How long will you be at our wedding for?
I only shoot one wedding per day and usually cover from preparations to first dance. I want you to have as complete a record of your day as possible. Not an unfinished story.
How much will you direct us on the day?
About 20% of the pictures I take will be family groups or some quick posed photographs of the couple. If you have specific photographs you would like taking, we can go through these before the day. The other 80% of the photographs I take will be unposed, candid records of the day.
I try to capture all of the moments of the day without you noticing. Obviously I can't make myself invisible, so I will be there for all to see, but for most of the day I won't direct people as to what to do.
How do we book you for our wedding date?
To reserve your wedding date, I require a non-refundable retainer of £350 and a signed contract, which I will post to you. Please contact me for more information.
Do you shoot with film or digital?
I shoot almost everything in digital. Digital photographs have reached a point where they are as good as film images and most people are used to working with digital images on their computer. They also allow for some great album designs and are easily emailed and used as desktop backgrounds etc. On top of this they make great sharp prints for your real photographs.
Do we receive our images in colour or black and white?
I convert about 40% of my images to black and white, although the judgement depends on the photo. Black and white is a great medium for storytelling as it makes the viewer look at the subject, rather than the colours. But some photos just scream to be shown in full colour.
How many pictures do you take during the day?
I deliver at least 250 images from your day, although for a full day's photography the actual number is likely to be nearer 300. I know other photographers who deliver thousands of images, but would rather give you quality over quantity. I bring enough camera memory to record thousands of images, so I won't run out during the day.
How long will it take us to get our pictures?
Your images will be online for you to see within 6 weeks. Your discs will be with you within 8 weeks. I will do an initial design of your album which be placed online for you to see and for any changes to be made. After all the changes are made to your album it will be ordered and delivered to you within 6 weeks of the submission date.
Can our friends order our pictures?
Yes, all they need to do is select 'client area' from the top right hand corner to see the gallery from your wedding day. Your friends and family can order pictures from there.
Do you bring back up gear?
Yes, I have backups for all my equipment. Once I have taken your pictures they are backed up in several location both on and off-site so you can enjoy peace of mind that they are safe. I am also fully insured.
