Wedding Photographers Nottingham, Leicester, Derby Wedding Photographer – Jon Rouston

Off to Derbyshire this week (although the registrar told me she was from Leicestershire, very sternly I might add – local rivalries still going strong, even amongst council officials!).

Claire and Mark were married at the Priest House Hotel in Castle Donington, in a gorgeous summery (well, ok, springy) afternoon surrounded by a smattering of friends and family. A shorter coverage than I usually do means there’s no preps or first dance to this one.

Also, a note to the priest house hotel – downlighters are the work of the photographic devil, especially when the ceiling is on the ‘low” side. If you could re-think your lighting policy, all the wedding photographers in the East Midlands would be grateful – thanks!

While ‘Strobist’ sounds a bit like someone who wanders around with a giant torch on his head, it’s not, it is, in fact a website written by an American photographer teaching people how to use flashes off camera. I started reading it a couple of years ago and now use the techniques quite a lot at weddings. There have been quite a few local groups across the UK which practised off camera flash, but we weren’t aware of one in Nottingham – until now. Tuesday saw the first meeting of the Nottingham Strobist Group!

Photographers ranging from those that hadn’t even turned on a flash before to those that had their own studios met and practised off camera flash with the help of a couple of very patient models. (Thank you Tiff and Ellie)
